Marketing advice from Winnie the Pooh
I get irritated with myself for wasting time trying to pick an idea to write about any on given day.
I tell myself that I’ve been doing this for long enough that I should be able to decide what I’m going to write about and then write it without the burden of self-doubt.
Wanting to avoid getting caught in this loop, I made a commitment last night to try a new process. I picked the quote I would use today and told myself I couldn’t change it.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, when I sat down this morning, I wasn’t happy. I wished I hadn’t chosen it. It seemed like a good idea last night, but today, I wanted something with sharper teeth.
But I made the commitment, so I’m sticking to it.
Take it away, Winnie.
Most of my clients know they’re going to need to leave their “corner of the forest” if they want to make something happen — if they want things to change.
A part of them knows if they want to get new readers, subscribers, clients, members, or customers — they’re going to have to go find them.
Some of them don’t do it because it’s scary out there. They might be criticized or laughed at or accused of being an imposter.
They might waste time. They might find nothing. They might get lost.
All understandable.
Some of them say that they would take the risk if they knew it would work — if a positive outcome was guaranteed.
But there ain’t no guarantees in the forest, babycakes.
Or maybe there is one guarantee — if you don’t leave your corner, nothing is going to happen.
No one is going to come find you.
