Write angry, baby
Yesterday, I was walking with a friend towards a coffee shop to write.
I’m in California, so it wasn’t surprising that on a single block, I saw three businesses with the word “wellness” in their name or slogan.
“Now Yoga & Wellness Studio”
“High Tide Wellness and Recovery”
“Komplete Health and Wellness”
I started ranting about how boring, generic, and lame it is to use that word in your business.
“Wellness.” 🙄
Like, be more fucking specific, ffs.
My friend looked at me like I was crazy.
She questioned whether I could really be as upset as I seemed. She was right. I wasn’t.
I explained to her that I was just trying to “get the engine started.”
I like to write angry. It’s more fun. And it generally leads to far more interesting work.
Sometimes, when I don’t have an idea, I try to work myself into a frenzy about something that doesn’t really bother me that much.
In truth, I don’t really have a major issue with the use of the word “wellness.” I was bullshitting.
If I wasn’t looking for an idea to write about, it wouldn’t have merited a rant.
What about you? What could you be angry about? What might piss you off?
See if you can’t get that engine started.
Write angry, baby.
