I hate watching Zoom recordings. They all look the same.
Even when the content is really good, I’m bored after 5 minutes.
So a few years ago, I had an idea.
I started setting my phone up on a tripod and filming a secondary angle.
I’m not a video editor, but I figured out how to sync the recording and the video from my phone. (it’s easy)
Then I do one of two things:
I make a horizontal video and cut between the two cameras
I make a vertical video and stack the videos on top of one another.
It’s way more interesting to watch.
I tend to go with the vertical orientation these days as far more people are watching videos on their phone.
And it’s cool to be able to see the subtleties of an interaction.
Here’s an example.
It’s a clip from yesterday’s Learning Out Loud class.
Suzanne talking about how she increased her email engagement by 70%.
I’m the “he/him” she’s talking about in the video. It didn’t occur to me to record the Zoom class in Gallery View to show the other attendees. That will not happen again. 🤦🏻♂️
LOVE this ! Great idea with the different videos.
And I got a lot from what Suzanne was saying - about getting ppl to respond, prompting then so they feel included.
If you’re willing, I’d love to know what you use to take the sound from the phone recording to overlay on the zoom. I usually have a crispier phone recording but haven’t fiddled with this up level for zoom recordings 🙏🏻
