Yesterday's email was only half true
I got an interesting response to the “What I Do” email yesterday.
Dude said:
“you don’t really do much of the first list anymore 😕”
I had planned to send a follow-up email addressing this fact. I was already aware of it.
He’s not wrong, and I miss doing these things:
Tease, provoke, and challenge you.
Don't show you the respect you think you deserve.
Disrupt your comfortable path.
Bring chaos when you want order.
Turn things upside down.
Make light of what's heavy and dark.
I’m pretty sure the main reason you’re seeing less of them is simply because I haven’t been using Instagram.
They’re much harder to pull off in writing. They’re very much “tone dependent.”
For them to be effective — or even funny — they have to be done right.
I’m well practiced doing these things on video.
But with writing, not so much.
I could most certainly practice and get better. Maybe I should.
And then there’s the recent realization about how I was using grandiosity as a tool to make myself feel better.
I think I needed the break to determine who I was versus the characters I’ve been playing.
I don’t think I’ve got it all figured out yet, but it might be time to start experimenting again.
We’ll see.
Thanks for reading.
